Graham Blackburn Bell

July 18, 1929 - February 17, 2022

Tribute

Graham passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the age of 92. He was born to parents Harry and Vivian Bell on July 18, 1929 in Hamilton, ON.

Graham is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Jean; daughter Catherine Turner (Bob) of Duncan; son Michael Bell (Carol) of Kamloops; grandchildren Michael Turner (Jennifer) of Victoria, Randall Turner (Kristen) of Victoria, Carly Watson (Mike) of Kamloops and Alexis Bell (Taylor) of Kamloops; and great-granddaughter Marlowe Watson of Kamloops.

Graham attended McMaster University in Hamilton on a hockey scholarship.  He graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Honours Chemistry in May of 1952 and started working for Shawinigan Chemical in Quebec. In November of 1952 he married the love of his life, Jean, and they began their life together. In 1959 Graham started working for Dow Chemical in Ontario. He moved across the country to Alberta and British Columbia with the company, working mainly in production and construction as a Chemical Engineer. He retired from Dow Chemical in 1984.

Graham always had a passion for hockey and played until the age of 86. He had many hobbies in his life that continued into his retirement including boating, fishing, hunting and travelling. Graham had his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his own airplane.  Before moving to Duncan in 2001, Graham and Jean owned a cattle ranch in Fort Langley and later an orchard in Summerland. Family was the most important thing to Graham and he was grateful for every moment he was able to spend with his wife, children, grandchildren and his beautiful great-granddaughter. He will be forever loved and missed.

Following Graham’s wishes, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Terry Fox Foundation.
