Tribute

Gordon Robert Wilson
November 21, 1929 – March 11, 2012

Gordon passed away at home on Sunday, March 11, 2012, surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his son Greg, he leaves behind his loving wife of 60+ years, Geraldine, daughters Chris (Tony) and Cindy, son Jeffrey (Carolyn) and four grandchildren. Gordon was fondly referred to as ‘Granddad’ by Erin and Andrew, and ‘Papa’ by Kaetlen and Robyn.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Gordon moved to Toronto at 12 years of age and joined the military at 16 years old. He spent 10 years, ending in 1955, in the reserves as a very proud member of the Governor Generals’ Horse Guards – an experience he enjoyed thoroughly and which influenced the rest of his life. It was during this time he met and married Geraldine and started his family. His career in business started with the George M. Hendry Co., continued with Central Scientific Company of Canada and, starting in 1972, culminated with the position of General Manager and (later) President of Hohner Canada. Retired in 1986, he and Geraldine moved to their chalet in Moonstone, ON and then, in 1989, on to their current home in Arbutus Ridge, BC.
An avid hunter in Ontario, it was here in Arbutus Ridge that he turned to his other passions of golf and curling. When not involved with sporting activities, Gordon was an active and respected member of the Arbutus Ridge Strata Council, served on various committees within the community and volunteered with the Cancer Society. Gordon and Geraldine also indulged in their love of travel.
Gordon lived according to his beliefs of respect, honesty, integrity and never taking advantage of another – something for which we all strive but something he truly achieved.
A celebration of Gordon’s life takes place on Thursday March 15th at 3:00 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church, Cobble Hill Road. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lung Association would be greatly appreciated.
