Tribute

Gordon Warren Washburn

October 17, 1935 – December 22, 2009

Passed away peacefully after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis with his wife Joan by his side. Gordon also leaves to mourn, his son Ken (Sue), daughter Janet (Dennis), grandson Nigel and brother William (Em).

Gordon worked for the Royal Bank of Canada for 35 years in many branches across the country. After retirement Gordon and Joan moved back to Duncan where he spent many happy hours working in his garden, lawn bowling and being with his friends. Over the years he enjoyed many travels and cruises. Always busy, Gordon was treasurer of the Cowichan Symphony Society for many years and the Cowichan Lawn Bowling Club in recent years. He was also involved with the United Way campaign in the Cowichan Valley. Forever kind and helpful, he was a man of great integrity, and was respected by all who knew him.

Our thanks go to our wonderful neighbours and our special friends who helped us over these last years. A special thank you to Margaret Acton who visited often and was his birthday partner, to Heidi Bovey who came to see Gordon and cheer him every week, and to Dr. Gilbert who visited Gordon often and was always kind.

A memorial service will be held Saturday January 9, 2010 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 5800 Church Road, Duncan at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The British Columbia Lung Association, 2675 Oak St., Vancouver, BC V6H 2K2. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com.

It is with sadness that we learned of the passing of Gordon.
From my conversation with him last Summer we had looked forward to a visit but it didn’t happen. A recent reminiscence of our get-together at Whistler many years ago was a pleasant one. Sincere Condolance to Joan and family. J. & B. R.

Our sympathies to Joan and her family. We worked together at RBC Duncan Main branch in the 1980’s. Gordon was a kind man and everybody felt the same. He was a wonderful person to work for and we thank him for his smile, gentleness and of course his kindness. We know he will be missed.
