Tribute
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gerry VanJaarsveld on April 19, 2018. He was 89yrs old. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family at Cowichan District Hospital.
Gerry was born in Willeskop, The Netherlands and immigrated to Canada with his wife, Dora, in 1958. They settled in Duncan and began their life together as dairy farmers. They had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together on April 15, 2018.
Gerry established a strong reputation of excellence in dairy farming in the Cowichan Valley and he served on the Board of Directors with Island Farms. Gerry is known for his undeniable love for his wife and family, his outstanding work ethic, his generosity to numerous local and world wide charities, his love for animals, and his devotion to God.
He is survived by his wife, Dora, his 6 children Cornell (Teresa), Jerry (Lynn), Jolanda (Ken), Ronnie (Sue), Margo (Randy) and Brenda (Daron), his 14 grandchildren, and his 10 great grandchildren.
A special thank you to the Doctors and Nursing Staff on 3 North at CDH, who provided an exceptional level of care and compassion during a very difficult time.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he will be deeply missed.
A Funeral Service is planned for Wednesday, April 25 at St Edwards Parish, 2085 Maple Bay Road at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cowichan Valley Basket Society, a food bank in Duncan that Gerry donated to regularly.
