Gerald Wikkerink

July 9, 1944 - January 4, 2025

Tribute

Gerald Wikkerink, a child of God, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, January 4, 2025.  He died suddenly from a heart attack and did not suffer.

Beloved husband to Anneke for 44 years and dear father and grandfather to Luke and Tracey Shannon, Mark and Lauralee Wikkerink, and Angelina Wikkerink with six grandchildren.

Gerald was born in Aalten, the Netherlands to the late Jan Willem and Engelina Wikkerink and was son-in-law to the late Dirk Jan and Frederika Nyland.  He was the youngest of seven boys with one younger sister.  He is brother and brother-in-law to John✝ & Ann✝ Wikkerink, Rudy✝ & Sadie✝ Wikkerink, Gerry✝ & Harmina Wikkerink, Henk & Gladys✝ Wikkerink, Bill & Gert Wikkerink, Johan & Dorothy Wikkerink, Rita Wikkerink, Fred & Sandy Nyland, Martin✝ & Jannie Nyland, Arend & Joyce Stolte (Geraldine✝), Henry✝ & Herma Elzinga, and John & Wilma Nyland. Gerald was also an adored uncle and precious person to many.

The Wikkerink family immigrated to Canada in the 1950s and have been an active and familiar family in the Cowichan Valley for decades.  Gerald loved helping family with life and work on dairy farms in Cobble Hill until he started his own family.

Gerald was firm in his faith with Jesus Christ throughout all seasons of life, loved family so dearly and was passionate about taking care of people in his work and life.  He regularly volunteered at church, school and several community organizations.  He enjoyed growing a garden of various fruits, vegetables and flowers.  He was known by all for being gentle, kind, encouraging, and joyful.

A funeral service will be held at Duncan Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 2:00 pm.

The family wishes to thank doctors and nurses at Cowichan District Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital who cared for Gerald’s heart and health over the last number of years.  Heartfelt thanks is extended to HW Wallace for their kindness and grace in caring for family and Gerald’s body so beautifully. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Gerald’s character and legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who know him until we might meet again.
