Gary Madrick
January 10, 1947 - September 29, 2011
Tribute
MADRICK, Gary Edward
Born in Mimico Ontario on January 10, 1947, died of cancer September 29, 2011, a great loss and much grieved by his family and friends. Lovingly remembered by his family; beloved wife, Karen, sons Kevin (Tanya) and Owen, daughter Gillian (Henrik) and brother, Tom (Deborah).
After high school Gary joined the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force at the age of 18 and served until 1995 when he retired as acting Staff-Superintendent. After moving to Vancouver Island, he trained at the Legal Services Institute of BC and qualified as a Judicial Justice of the Peace serving Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. He remained in this position until his death.
To know Gary was to like him. He was very even-handed with people because he possessed human understanding. His good nature, infectious smile and irrepressible delight in making a timely pun were his trademarks. Attracting many friends, he was always welcoming, and although sometimes shy, he was socially adept.
Gary was naturally intelligent but largely self-educated. Factually accurate about history, he was a conversational companion of the first order. His mastery and use of the English language was exemplary. Not surprisingly, he was a traditional man, proud of his British heritage, and loyal to Queen and country.
We are not going to see the likes of him again.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, 3295 Cobble Hill Road, Cobble Hill BC on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, memorial remembrances may be made in the form of a donation to the charity of ones choice. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com

It is with great sadness that I read about the passing of Gary. I often tell the story about the time Gary and Karen came over for dinner when their son Owen and my son Jaron had started at Brentwood College. We had a rottweiller, and the only time she every growled at anyone, was the time Gary came up the stairs to the living room. I think because he was such an imposing character with his height and unusual mustache. Gary being such a kind gentle man, never batted an eyelash.
We send our condolsences to the Madrick family, and remember Gary fondly. Susan, Jaron and Daniel Good

Relation: victoria law courts
My deepest sympathy for the loss of Gary. I met Gary in my role as a court monitor at the Victoria law courts. I would often attend traffic court and one day he asked me when my case would be called. After explaining what I was about, we developed a friendship, He would often stay at the end of a court session for a short chat, sometimes about traffic law; but most often about cars. We both attended the car show at Mill Bay to exhibit our respective collector vehicles.
I will always remember Gary for his easy-going nature, patience and as a first-rate justice of the peace.
Sincerely
Norm McCrimmon

It was sad to hear of Gary’s passing. I was a classmate and played football with Gary all those years ago. I had not seen Gary since the late 70’s when I was working at St. Michael’s Hosp. and ran into him by chance when he was a Metro Officer. We had a good talk and I noticed his sense of humour was as good or better than I remembered. Gary was a good person and it is my loss that we never stayed in contact. I send prayers and condolences to Gary’s family and friends. This is a great loss for all who knew Gary. So sorry. I still have yearbook pictures of those football teams from the 60’s and have frequently wondered what has happened to the guys. I will miss Gary even though we hadn’t spoken for over 30 years.

Karen and Family: it is with deep sadness and regret that we read of Gary’s passing in todays paper. Our hearts and thoughts and prayers are with you all in this very difficult time. There are so many many things brought to mind and all of them warm and loving when we think of Gary. He was a sincere pleasure to know and associate with. A consumate professional and extremely proud of his wife and family. I miss many things about our work and mostly it was Gary’s upbeat personality. He is one of those people that make this country strong. His love of family, and personal integrity lumped with his professionalism are just simply wonderful. In this time of strife and grief please find time to rejoice is what Gary was, did and felt. He was simply put a wonderful human being. We will miss him. Until we meet again Love Lois and Jim
