Gary Wayne Blomgren
Tribute
After a long and valiant struggle with cancer, Wayne left this earth December 7, 2025. Wayne was strong and positive and had a wonderful sense of humour that stayed with him to the very end. His spirit will join his many family and friends who have gone before him.
He is survived by his loving and much-loved wife Cindy, son Darren, and wife Corrie, grandchildren Chayse, Chayton and Cayson; Stepsons Rob, wife Kelly, and grandchildren Maia and Jasper; and Alex, partner Tasha and new grandson Marcus; sister Elsie, many nephews and nieces, including Eddie to whom Wayne was like a second dad.
Wayne began life in Robert’s Creek on a chicken farm, the youngest of 11 siblings. He went to work as a teenager logging with his older brothers. He married Donna, his high school sweetheart, and they had a beautiful son Darren. The couple moved to Williams Lake and went into a partnership in a local grocery store. Wayne and Donna eventually divorced, and Wayne moved to Nanaimo where he managed the Jingle Pot Pub for 13 years. He and Cindy met while he was working as a manager at Chemainus Foods. They married in 2011, and had a life of fun, adventures, and many, many good times with good friends, old and new. Soulmates, they were.
Wayne truly was one of a kind. A cowboy with his own set of rules, he was charismatic, caring and thoughtful. He had an enormous zest for life and loved people, having fun and made friends wherever he went. He was engaging with his sense of humour; he always rooted for the underdog and was a jack of all trades and a master salesman.
Wayne loved music, especially country: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristopherson, Merle Haggard and so many more. He owned 6 guitars, and played guitar and sang himself, but never felt confident enough to play for others, except around a campfire. He loved listening to live music, dancing, and meeting people, and travelling with Cindy in their RV. He was wonderful with children, well-practised on his many nieces and nephews. He also had an innate connection with animals and easily bonded with them.
He was a loving partner, and a wonderful friend to many. Always kind, ever respectful, but stubborn and true to his values and beliefs. Quick to lend a hand or help a friend, he will be deeply missed by his big, extended family, many friends and members of his large community.
He had many wonderful caregivers over his long journey, but special mention goes to BC Cancercare and the team at Cowichan Hospice House. For anyone wishing to do so, donations to Cowichan Hospice in Wayne’s memory can be made online at: https://wl.donorperfect.net/weblink/WebLink.aspx?name=E344431QE&id=2
Go in peace, good soul.
