Fay Norie

January 10, 1929 - May 30, 2022

Tribute

Fay passed away peacefully after spending the previous afternoon with her four children. Fay was born in Viking Alberta, grew up in Camp 6 (Caycuse) and in Mill Bay. She married the love of her life, Frank in 1950 and raised her 4 children in their family home at Cobble Hill where she lived until 2021. Fay loved to travel and one of her favourite places was Maui, where she and Frank had many good times swimming in the ocean and having happy hours with friends. She loved to entertain and was an avid gardener. Summers at the Norie residence were full of friends and family around the swimming pool. Fay was always happy to see children learning to swim and she welcomed friends and neighbours. Fay was predeceased by Frank in 2008 and is survived by her four children, Peggy (Chris) Whittaker, Ken (Lori) Norie, Sherry Norie and Peter (Tina) Norie, her six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A private family gathering will be held in her honour.

In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to one of her favourite charities, the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.

I will miss Fay and appreciate the times I had with Fay. Our daughter had swimming lessons at their pool and it was so enjoyable to have cups of tea and chat with Fay. She was such a gracious host. The plant pots around the yard, full of vibrant colour and beauty were wonderful.
A special memory is going with friend Peg and her mom Fay to Cowichan Lake/Shaw Creek and having a picnic on the beach and making tea and talking about Fay’s upbringing on a float camp on the lake. Wonderful stories of adventure , I remember and appreciate that day , Once when at a conference in Vancouver we toured the kitchens of the Pan Pacific together and that is a special memory also . Fay was a special person to me for many reasons.

I was honoured to be able to care for Fay for four years. Fay and I developed a wonderful friendship. Fay was always very grateful for the care she received from all of her caregivers and expressed this each and every day. I am thankful to Fay’s family and lovely friends for welcoming me into their lives and homes and treating me like family. Fay was a very special lady and I will miss her greatly. May she Rest In Peace after a very long and blessed life ❤️

Sending my deepest condolences to all the Norie family. I’ll always remember finding the path through the bush to come for a swim. Your Mom helped me learn to dive. A very lovely lady!! Hugs to you all.

Aunt Fay will be missed immensely by many . Her’s was a life filled with many connections from near and far. She and Dub provided the hub of get-togethers on the pool deck, in her beautiful gardens, in their lovely home, or wherever there was an opportunity. Always ready to host a gathering, be it Quinsam Lake, or a rustic campsite in the Yukon, Fay could carry it off. She could make a sumptious meal from whatever berries, fish or local favs were found around the camp. She was generous, hard working, creative and always ready to make it work with whatever she had at hand. While growing up, Fay was my 2nd mother and we felt like one big happy family as she would take us to the beach, birthday parties, & play dates. Even with failing health in the last few years, she continued to maintain her friendships until fairly recently. We will miss our amazing Aunt Fay, but it was time at last for her to rest, peacefully . Such wonderful memories over the years, they will last in our hearts forever. Her’s was a life, truly, well lived.
Heartfelt condolences and love,
Peg & Chris, Ken & Lori, Pete & Tina, Sherry, and all the grand and great grandchildren.
