Tribute
Elizabeth Rae Ronningen (Betty-Rae Johnson)
Born Oct 23, 1945 in Comox BC
Passed away suddenly and peacefully Feb 26, 2026 at Nanaimo Hospital
Betty is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Bill Belton
Betty and Bill were blessed with a large blended family:
Daughter Robyn Dallaway (John), granddaughter Devon (Ty), and great granddaughter Autumn
Daughter Shelley Brimacombe (Curtis), granddaughter Saige (Morley), and grandson, Michael
Daughter Tammy Elzinga (Shawn), grandson Chayse (Jenner), great grandson Miller, and soon to be born another great grandchild. Grandsons Hunter and Dawson (Amy)
Daughter Cathy Foxon (Dave), granddaughters Danielle, Shelby (Evan) and April (Brendan) and great granddaughter Adrianne
Son Lance Middleton (Andrea), granddaughter Emily (Kevin), great granddaughter Annie and granddaughter Claire
Betty was raised in Shawnigan Lake by her doting grandparents, Harry and Mabel Johnson. Her memory was excellent and she shared many stories of growing up, swimming at the lake and walking the tracks.
Betty married young and had 3 daughters, Robyn, Shelley and Tammy. She moved to Duncan and met Bill and his children, Cathy and Lance. While in Duncan, they had many friends who gathered on the weekends at the shop on Calais Road. There were always many pets who were well loved. Betty enjoyed going out in the boat in Cowichan Bay, and expertly preparing all the salmon.
In 2003, they moved to the Okanagan and had a beautiful spot on the Similkameen River. They spent hours on the deck watching the tubers go by. Betty worked riding a quad in the orchards until she was 75. She loved all the camping and river fishing, but always missed the island.
They moved back to Duncan in 2021, and spent these last years being close to her kids and grandkids. She was so proud of them all. She enjoyed brunch with the girls, and dinners with the boys. Tuesdays and Sundays she could be found at the Valley Seniors playing bingo.
We would like to thank the Duncan and Nanaimo Dialysis Clinics and the late Dr. Bass and his staff for the care and compassion they showed Mom.
Celebration of Life to be held Saturday March 14th at 1:00pm at the Cobble Hill Hall, 3550 Watson Ave, Cobble Hill.
