Tribute
Elaine Dempster was born to Edwin and Lena Openshaw in May 1944, in Vancouver, BC. She passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024, in Victoria, BC, surrounded by her loving family.
Elaine was pre-deceased by her parents, and husband of 46 years, Lavern. She is survived by her brothers, Ron and Robert, 3 children, Graeme, Cheryl, and Shawna, and 7 grandchildren.
After obtaining her teaching certificate Elaine started a career in education in the fall of 1965, teaching in Vancouver. In 1974, she married Lavern Dempster, and they settled in Duncan BC to start their family. Vancouver Island remained their cherished home for the rest of her life.
Elaine’s greatest treasures were her faith and her family, whom she loved unconditionally. Her enthusiastic love, kindness, and caring spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Her culinary skills were legendary, her hospitality endless, and her smile contagious. Elaine’s warm and welcoming presence made everyone feel at home. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the love she shared and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her.

Elaine and I shared a hospital room when I gave birth to my daughter and she gave birth to her son Graeme. It was a special time for each of us and we bonded over the shared experience of having our first child. She was one of the kindest most caring people I have ever known. In the coming years I saw this special lady many times and benefited greatly from her sage advice about nutrition. She also was a beloved and conscientious teacher (substitute I think) whom my son was privileged to have when he attended Bench school. Rest In Peace beautiful lady. You will be remembered always.

Elaine introduced me to Shaklee natural cleaning products when my first child was born.. I went to several nutritional talks at her home and have purchased cleaning and nutritional products from her ever since.. I always felt I could talk to Elaine about anything. She loved her family and often talked about her children and what they were doing and where they were. She was a wonderful person. We also had a connection with our music. I send my condolences to her three children and their families.

We are so sorry to hear about Elaine’s passing. Her smile used to light up our ice cream parlour back in the early 2000s when Cheryl and Shauna worked for us and the family would come by. Thinking of you all.
