Tribute
Eileen Claire (Trapp) Shannon, aged 92, passed away July 29, 2022, at Cairnsmore Place in Duncan BC.
Eileen is survived by her loving husband, Kevin Shannon, her daughters (Kerry/Petri, Sheila/Jim, Laurel), her grandchildren (Cole, Elizabeth, Amelia, Aili, Nina/Shane, Liisa, Ryan), her great-grandchildren (Saryn, Amaia, Vivienne, Lillia) and her sister, Helen. Eileen was pre-deceased by her parents (George and Roberta ) and her brother (Robert) whom she missed dearly.
Eileen was born in June 1930 in Vancouver BC. She was proud of her service in the Wrens and was a talented marksman. Eileen started tying in the net lofts at Kildonan in the 1940’s and continued her love of fibre art with sewing, knitting, tatting, lace making, and dying and spinning fleece into yarn. In 1954 Eileen married Kevin and in 1961 the family moved to Nova Scotia where Eileen learned to weave; the family returned to BC in 1968, then moved to the Cariboo in 1972. Eileen was an accomplished fibre artist and attained Master Weaver designation; she is well known in various guilds for her contribution as both artist and teacher. Eileen was a keen miniaturist and attended many miniature conferences; she even wove miniature blankets with thread!
Kevin and Eileen were married 68 years and they were, in her own words ‘very happy years’. Eileen approached each change in life’s direction as a ‘new adventure’ even if from her armchair in her later years – life was an adventure. The home she created was full of music, arts, love and laughter — and she was reigning ‘Oh Hell’ Champion.
Family and friends (and those she hadn’t met yet) were all important to Eileen; she was kind and caring. She touched so many lives and looked beyond life’s challenges to see and bring out the best in people.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Mohammud Ibrahim, Island Health Home support, the Cowichan District Hospital 2S Staff, and the Cairnsmore Place Staff for their kind and generous care.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Her wisdom, her grace, her artistic sense and her sense of humor were unsurpassed. I will miss her and love you all for letting me part of your family as number 4 aka the “friendly moose “

The members of the South Cariboo Weavers, Spinners and Fiber Artists guild wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Eileen Shannon. She was a valued member of the guild for many years and contributed greatly. She has been missed for many years as she was unable to physically attend us but she was a lifetime member and we are saddened by her passing.

Eileen was my spinning and weaving mentor and a constant source of inspiration. I especially enjoyed her keen sense of humour and her ‘show and tell’ items at each guild meeting. It was an honour to know her.
