Small, Edith Elizabeth (Meyers/ nee Jakkola). May 30, 1924 to August 30, 2023.
Passed away peacefully in the Cowichan District Hospital following several months of declining health. Predeceased by husbands Gordon Meyers (1984) and Fred Small (2018). Survived by daughters Judith Hudson (Duncan) Janet Whittam (Chesterville, Ontario) and son, Andrew Meyers (Saltspring Island), also leaving 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Thanks to the kind and caring staff at Abbeyfield House, Duncan, where she lived for five happy years, and Deertrail Cottage where she spent her last few weeks. Also thanks to the staff at Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan who were very attentive and kind.
Edith was born in Waters Township in Northern Ontario and resided in Sudbury, Toronto, and St. Louis Missouri USA. She moved to Victoria in 1989 and then to Duncan in 1996.
She enjoyed being outdoors observing nature, especially birds, and walking in the forest, received pleasure from spending time with her family, was especially amused by children and dogs, loved to read, travel and was a devout Christian.
Memorial Service at St. Ann’s Presbyterian Church to follow. Donations in her name can be sent to
