Earl Edward Hegglund
September 22, 1938 - March 11, 2025
Tribute
It is with the profound sadness that only comes from the loss of a deeply loved family member that we announce the passing of our dad, Earl Edward Hegglund. Born on September 22, 1938, he departed on March 11, 2025, at the age of 86.
Earl was born to Seth and Amy in their home in Quatsino, BC. He was the fourth of six children and is survived by his sisters, Viola Lebitschnig and Joy Hegglund. He was predeceased by his sisters, Bertha (Birdie) Leidenius and Margaret, as well as his brother Carl. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Dorothy, his eldest son Wesley and great-granddaughter Maddison.
Earl spent most of his life as a commercial fisherman, working along the West Coast of British Columbia, predominantly out of Prince Rupert. The sea will always be his home.
Earl had many loves in his life, including his dog Harry, salt, cigarettes, coffee, beer, golf, CNN, the Blue Jays and most importantly, his family.
He met his wife, Dorothy in 1959 and together they quickly built a beautiful family, raising five extraordinary children. He is survived by four of them and their partners: son Carl and Mary-Ann, daughter Vicki and Tim Fenton, daughter Maria and Andrew Rose, and son John and Amanda. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Angela McDiarmid.
By far the greatest joy in Earl’s life were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of whom he was fortunate enough to have 13 of each.
We will be honouring his life on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Crofton Community Centre, 8104 Robert St., Crofton, BC.
