Douglas Gregory Solloway
October 11, 1953 - October 5, 2023
Tribute
The love of my life went to sleep in the early hours of October 5, 2023.
The words below were written by Doug as the disease began to spread.
“I was born in St Martin’s Hospital in Oliver BC to Fred & Margaret Solloway. I attended South Okanagan Secondary School where I was passionately involved in all sports but focused on Basketball, Rugby and Baseball. On graduation, went to Vancouver where he met his love Tibby. Together we discovered Vancouver Island, settling in Maple Bay. ‘Heaven on Earth’ I joined the Maple Bay Fire Hall in 1981 & spent 20 years meeting and making lifelong friends. As a proud member of the Cowichan Rugby Club, as both a player and supporter, I missed very few games. Membership in the Mt Breton Golf Club enabled early morning tee off times every Monday & Friday. The Maple Bay Yacht Club was where a passion for my racing began. Over the last 5 years Pickle Ball, both on the Island and in Maui, became the sport of choice. Many thanks go to Dr. Postuck for his wonderful care and assistance; as well as Home Care for their kind support. Thanks too to all the staff at the Royal Jubilee Cancer Clinic for their unending support over the last 10 years. A very special Thank-You goes to my friend and Doctor, Walter Chow, who has been a huge support for both Tibby & me – ‘A Rock’. In lieu of flowers please donate to your charity of choice & always remember to cherish your family and friends.”
Doug & I were just kids when we married & I will miss him terribly.
From 2:00 to 4:00 a celebration of Doug’s’ life will be held at the Maple Bay Yacht Club, 6337 Genoa Bay Road Duncan BC

Relation: Cousin - his dad and mine were brothers
Len and I would like to send our deepest sympathies to all. I didn’t get to know Doug all that well growing up or in our adult life, but kept in touch with his sister Bev throughout the years. His mom was my favorite Aunt ~ always visited whenever we were in Oliver. He is now back in her arms!! Rest in peace Doug.

I didn’t know Doug all that well growing up, but did keep in touch with his sister Bev, and his parents when they were living. We were just a block away from his Mom and Dad in Oliver for a few years.
