Doug was born and raised in the Cowichan Valley. He was a long time member of the Clements Center in Duncan. He liked to bowl, swim and do artwork. Family and friends were very important to “Dougie”.He participated in the very first Operation Trackshoes  track meet in 1971 and kept actively participating until his health prevented him from doing so this year. Doug was extremely proud of his track meet ribbons and loved to show them to his friends and family.

The family of Doug would like to thank the hospital staff on the second floor at CDH for the excellent care he received. We would also sincerely like to thank all those people that were part of Doug’s life both in his care and in his activities.

A celebration of Doug’s  wonderful life will be held on Saturday, August 25,2018 at 2pm. At HW Wallace Cremation & Burial Centre, 5285 Polkey Road, Duncan, BC.  For those wishing to do so there is a way to remember Doug through ” Doug ‘s big BIG  Sock Drive” on August 31. Doug would also appreciate it if you could be a volunteer for Operation Trackshoes.

Rest well Dougie. I remember well first meeting Dougie and his papa, such compatible bachelors. Since then I have learned so much from his amazing ability to adapt, his acceptance of others and his daily reminders that chivalry is alive and well. My condolences to all who knew and loved Dougie.

Dear Ken so very sorry to hear of Dougie’s passing, it brought lots of memories of your family especially your Dad who was so very special to me. Both Doug and your Dad welcomed me with open arms every week, Doug always waiting at the door with a hug and wanting to make me a cup of tea. Your Dad is one of the very good memories I have of my days with Home and Community Care. I am sure they are all together now. Sincerely Lynne Stuart (retired Community Health worker).

My deepest condolences to Doug’s family. I had the pleasure of knowing this charming man for most of the 27 years I have been with Clements. I saw less of him in the last few years but he always made sure to come say hello when I was in the building. And he would rarely fail to ask about my “wee wee” one (now grown) and talk about whatever was going on for him. I will miss those warm greetings and his thoughtful nature….as I know many will.
