Dorothy May Lambert

February 7, 1920 - November 30, 2012

Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce she passed away peacefully on Friday November 30, 2012 with family by her side at Cairnsmore Place.  She was born February 7, 1920 to Karl and Mary Barkham at the Ship Inn across the Solent from Southampton, England.  22 years later, February 14, 1942, she married Reginald Peter Lambert (never called Reg, always Pete) in Orpington, Kent, England.  September 1943 saw the arrival of their daughter, Mary followed in July 1946 by son, Robert.

In the fall of 1947, along with her two young children, she followed Peter to Toronto where they built their home nearly all by hand, including digging out the basement.  On February 7, 1955, Dorothy’s 35th birthday, son Stephen, was added to the family at which time Peter informed her that she shouldn’t expect any more birthday presents.  A year later the family was on the move from Toronto to Los Angeles, California.  In 1968, after 12 years in Los Angeles, the couple purchased the Anchor Marina in Cowichan Bay.  After another 12 years, in November 1980 they retired to a condo on the hill overlooking the Bay.  Dorothy sold the condo in 2007 and moved to Sherwood House in Duncan, later to Heritage Manor and eventually Cairnsmore Place.  Dorothy loved playing golf and bridge which she did up until just a few years ago.  She was an active member of IODE and the British Canadian Social Club.

Dorothy was predeceased by Peter in 2000 and son Robert in 2011.  She is survived by daughter Mary Dancy, son Stephen, granddaughters; Robbyn Turner, Kristin Corbett, Shannon Lambert and Tiffany Coghill, grandsons; Richard, David and Aaron Lambert and Gabriel Jaffray, great grandchildren Chase Stiles, Maddy and Sydney Lambert, Julia Corbett and Avienna Coghill.  The family is very grateful for the kindness and care Dorothy received while she was at Cairnsmore Place.

A service will be held at St. Peter’s Quamichan Anglican Church on Wednesday December 5 at 2:00 with a tea following.  Flowers gratefully declined but a donation to a charity of your choice at the Christmas season would be most appropriate.
