Dixie Calderwood (Bailey)

July 14, 1953 - November 29, 2024

Tribute

Dixie passed away on November 29, 2024 after a 14 year battle with cancer.  She was born July 14, 1953 in Comox BC and moved to Lake Cowichan with her family in 1963 when T.W. Mckenzie Logging moved their operations from Royston and her father (Dick) became camp manager.  Dixie graduated from LCSS and attended Malaspina College completing her diploma in Business Studies.  She worked for Duncan Kondra Eng., Coast Wire and Rope and later at Walmart.

Dixie was a wonderful cook who also loved gardening, her cats and budgies. She loved spending time with Al Hudson her very special friend.  As the cancer progressed Al and her cousin Ken Monk drove her to countless appointments around the Island.  We are very grateful for the care they showed.

Dixie is survived by her sister Judi Olsson and many nephews and nieces.  She was predeceased by her parents Dick and Eva Bailey and her younger brother Michael.

We would like to thank Dr. Sohn and all the medical professionals at both the BC Cancer agency (Victoria and Nanaimo) and the Cowichan District Hospital.  A special thanks to the Cowichan Hospice where Dixie spent her final days. Another Thank You should be given to all the Staff at Makola where she resided for ten years.

There will be no service but a Tea will be held at a later date.
