Dennis suddenly left us on November 26, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Dennis was predeceased by his wife Eva Derdall. Brothers Ted and Tommy, sisters Muriel, Dorothy, Randi, his grandchildren Bailey, Cameron, Austin, Tiffany, Calvin, Paige and many others who knew and loved him. Dennis had a long career with the military and worked over 28 years at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Victoria. From: Jim Hesser
Relation: Dominion Astrophysical Observatory
I was privileged to work with Dennis throughout his long career at the Observatory, where he made strong contributions to numerous local and international projects in which we are involved. I enjoyed our interactions a great deal, and am very grateful for his knowledge, enthusiasm and devotion to getting challenging projects done extremely well. We often found ourselves working on weekends or evenings, which led to opportunities for casual conversations about life and his passions, especially fishing. He was missed a great deal when he retired. My sincere condolences to his family. He was a very special person who left a positive mark on all with whom he came in contact.
From: Murray Fletcher
Relation: A colleague at the DAO (Victoria)
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Dennis. He and I were colleagues at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory for all of his years there. He was an encyclopedia of practical electronics knowledge and was always willing to offer a solution for any electronics problem, and had a wealth of stories from the years before joining the observatory.
At some point we were each surprised to discover that we shared Nelson as our place of birth. (I was his senior by seven years.)
Please accept my sincere condolences for the passing of Dennis, a truly memorable person.
