Dennis Cronin

May 6, 1954 - April 12, 2016

Tribute

It is with a broken heart, memories to last a lifetime, and endless love that I tell you Dennis has his wings. He can fly over all those hunting spots, great rivers and oceans filled with fish, and his love of nature, wilderness and wildlife.

Dennis fought hard for almost four years with cancer, many of those years with a smile still on his face, teasing his nurses.

Dennis was the most compassionate, caring person who would have helped anyone, and had an amazing array of friends, too many to count. Those of you that knew him, and those that loved him, will miss him forever, he was that wonderful. He had the patience to teach many of his knowledge of hunting, fishing, shed antler hunting, and anything to do with rocks, trees and mountains.

He will always have the legacy of helping four families have closure with the loss of their family members of the WW2 Avro Anson.

Dennis now joins our daughter Crystal, his parents, Jim and Theresa Cronin, my parents, Otto and Rachel Halvorson, half brothers Carl, Gerald and half sister Margaret in peace.

Dennis leaves behind a heartbroken wife, Lorraine and two very handsome sons, Kyle and Luke, who follow in their fathers footsteps. Brother in law Harold Halvorson (Sandi), Sisters in law Rosemaire (Bryan), and Oline. Brother Mike (Josephine), and brother Peter. Numerous family members that held him so dear.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the cancer society…Thank you.

A Celebration of Life will be on April 23rd, 2016 @ 12 noon

St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 60 Fern Road, Lake Cowichan, BC

I was lucky to have traveled the Renfrew road to the Anson crash site with Dennis Cronin several times. It was obvious to me from the ‘get go’ that Dennis had an incredible knowledge of the Cowichan Valley mountains and its wild life. I listened to him in awe of his love and passion for nature. He talked fondly about mounting his video camera on trees to capture the movements of curious elk, bear, wolves & cougar. At the Anson crash site one could see that Dennis was proud of his amazing and historically important Anson discovery. When we returned tired and dirty Dennis somehow found the energy to expertly barbecue the biggest and best steaks I have ever had. These are the memories I have of this great guy!

Dennis Cronin made this world a better place and I am truly going to miss him.

My sincere condolence to Lorraine, and all Dennis’s family.

Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. Dennis was a true gentleman, a hard working proud Forest Industry worker. His smile always made my day, no matter what was happening. A fellow worker who was compassionate and pleased to help in whatever capacity you neede him. Again my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May the fish be slabs and the deer be Boon and Crocket worthy.

I feel that we got to know Dennis very well in the short time that we knew him. But for his knowledge and perseverance it is possible that the remains of the Anson on which my father and his 3 colleagues perished may still be undiscovered in the forest. We had the pleasure of meeting him both before and after the official burial service in Victoria and later on a return visit that he organised to the actual crash site for myself and my daughter Kim he and his family made us feel very welcome on that occasion and made every effort to ensure that our visit was both memorable and enjoyable, something in which they succeeded on all counts we will remember that day for the rest of our lives. He was a wonderful man may he rest in peace and enjoy flying over his beloved forest on his angels wings.
Our sincerest condolences go to Lorraine and his family.

I have only known Dennis for a few years as a result of him finding my grandfather’s plane. We were so lucky that someone like Dennis found it and treated the situation with the sensitivity that it deserved. It has been obvious, in my short time of knowing him and my limited interactions with him, that he was such a special man, even when he was fighting the cancer and obviously not feeling 100% he gave up his time to take me and my father (and I know others before us) to the crash site which was not an easy trek. It was such a special experience for us, especially my Dad for which we are so very grateful and has created some wonderful memories. We could not have done it without him. I feel honoured to have known him and his family and I will always remember him. x
