Denise Holloway
February 1, 1954 - September 17, 2026
Tribute
Denise was born in Halifax, to Harold and Jean Holloway, and passed away after a short illness. She was preceded in death by both parents, and brothers Patrick and Christopher, and will be remembered by her loving wife, Margie, siblings Cindy (Dan), Nancy (Bill), and Mike (Leslie), nieces, nephews and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Denise joined the Canadian army as a young woman, where she worked many years as a mechanic and became involved in sports such as broomball, curling, and ball hockey. She made many lifelong friends in her postings across Canada and in Germany.
ln retirement Denise got joy from fishing, fly-fishing, travelling the world with Margie, and borrowing other peoples grandchildren to take them camping. She was passionate about helping veterans in need during her many years as a volunteer at the Malahat legion, fundraising, and assisting veterans so they could live their best lives.
Denise was a true “down-homer”, generous with her time and support, always ready to make a new friend or to help others including total strangers, and eager to share a joke or funny story. She cherished spending time with family, especially when there were young nieces and nephews around. lt’s probably Denise’s sense of humour that is most memorable to those who loved her. She could find just the right words to lighten a tense moment, and enjoyed telling stories that ended with gales of laughter from a room full of people. Meat draws and other events at the legion won’t be the same without Denise sharing some bad jokes or giving friends and others a hard time in order to get a laugh. Her one-liners on the legion sign on Shawnigan Mill Bay road will be missed by many.
A celebration of Denise’s life will be held October 25, at 1 PM, at the Malahat Legion, 1625 Shawnigan Mill Bay Rd, Shawnigan Lake, BC.
