Tribute
After a short illness, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side. He will be sadly missed by his children, Gail ( John ), Glen ( Mandi ) Wayne ( Dora ) Holly, Dean ( Therese ) Grandchildren Cameron, Cole, Kevin, Carmen,Wayne. Great grandchildren, Keaton, Kienna, Kenzie, Mercedez, Rylan and Jace. His brother Mike ( Ellen ) ,our mother Marjorie and sister in law Roxanne Predeceased by his parents, Brother John, and our little brother Keven.
David was born in London England, His family moved to India when he was three years old as his father was a lieutenant Coronal in the military. In 1938 the family immigrated to Canada, first Vancouver, then Victoria. He joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 16 and proudly served during the second world war. After the war ended he settled in the Cowichan Valley.
He worked at the Hillcrest Mill for 18 years. In his off time he started a garbage company (C.W. Disposal LTD) and eventually left the mill and ran his company full time until 1986, when it was sold to Laidlaw. His biggest passion was flying aeroplanes. He would come up with any excuse to go flying his plane, perhaps a cup of coffee at the Abbotsford airport or maybe someone just needed a ride somewhere. As time moved on and he could not fly anymore, he spent allot of time volunteering at the seniors center and supporting the the local coffee shops here in town. He was always up for a good bull shit and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had a huge kind heart and would give you the shirt off his back or his last dollar if he felt you needed it.
Our family would like to thank Brian and Ron at the Quanoes Village for you care and concern. A special thanks to the wonderful V.I.H.A staff and the Cowichan District Hospital caregivers.
Our family has decided not to have a service due to the Christmas season and will wait until the new year. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the heart and stroke foundation.
