David Sim
April 18, 1960 - February 16, 2018
Tribute
David Andrew Sim, aged 57 after a brave and courageous fight with cancer left this world on February 16, 2018. Although his illness was deemed terminal over a year ago, Dave beat the odds, lasted longer than any expert thought possible and did not go gentle into the good night. Dave passed on his terms, his way, which much the way he lived his life.
He was born in Victoria on April 19, 1960 and remained in the area, the island he loved. In his younger years, he enjoyed participating in major building projects with his father on the property in Cobble Hill. In his spare time, he was out at sea, fishing or just boating around the island with friends and family.
Dave the youngest of 5 children to his parents Bill and Phylis Sim, he leaves behind a heartbroken older sister Anne Neil who he was very close to all of his life. She was his rock, he could always rely on her and the help she gave to help him leave the world as he wanted.
Dave also leaves behind his lifelong friends Kim and Terry Pfeifer, they were as thick as thieves and stuck together from childhood through good times and bad right until the last minute of Dave’s life. In Kim, Dave could not have asked for a better friend to share his life with. Dave is also survived by his sister Trudy Dewar of Kelowna, his nephews Shawn Dewar of Gold Coast Australia and Vincent Dewar of Calgary. Dave is predeceased by his sister Heather and brother Alan.
He was a proud man some would say infuriatingly stubborn especially those close to him, but David did not have a bad bone in his body, he was there to talk to and be there when family or friends really needed him. He was not a religious man but believed in God and the afterlife, so please spare a moment or two and send him some light or remember some fond times for the world is a bit dimmer without him.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

To all those that are mourning Dave, My Uncle. Some wise words from the Lumineers and a beautiful song that will hopefully help you through this awful time.
Nobody knows how to say goodbye
It seems so easy ’til you try
Then the moments passed you by
Nobody knows how to say goodbye
Nobody knows how to get back home
And we set out so long ago
Search the heavens and the Earth below
Nobody knows how to get back home
Through the darkness to the dawn
And when I looked back you were gone
Heard your voice leading me on
Through the darkness to the dawn
Love is deep as the road is long
And moves my feet to carry on
It beats my heart when you are gone
Love is deep as the road is long
Nobody knows how the story ends
Live the day, doing what you can
This is only where it began
Nobody knows how the story ends
Nobody knows how the story ends
