Tribute

It brings great sadness to announce the loss of David Nicklen who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family and  friends following a courageous journey with leukemia. He is survived by his wife Ronda, his children Aaron (Mark), Paul (Cristina), Kristy (Dan) Kelsey (Kyle) and grandchildren Kharma, Presely,  Quinlan, and Charlie. David is survived by his 97 year old Mother Frances, brother  Norman and sisters Olive, Irene, Beth and Darlene. The family would like to thank all of the outstanding staff at the Cowichan General  Hospital and especially Dr. Rachael Martin who treated David with care and compassion. There will be a celebration of life to honour David at the H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre at 5285 Polkey Rd. in Duncan on Sunday,  September 15, 2013 at 2PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cowichan hospital would be appreciated. The hospital Foundation website is www.cdhfoundation.org/donations.shtml . We cherish David and we are grateful for his love and influence in our lives now and forever.

I was very saddened when I heard the news on Uncle David’s death. My prayers and thoughts are with you .I am sorry I could not attend the memorial service but I just want to let your know that Uncle David was a very special man and will always be remembered.

From: Sherry Baskerville-Bridges and Bill Adkin
Relation: Caretakers of the truck and trailer

Since we purchased Dave’s truck and trailer in January, we didn’t fully appreciate all the extra things he had made or done to make life more pleasant on the road until the weather improved and we had some vacation time. We regret that we never took the time to tell him this, but think of him every time we go out. In the few visits with him, we learned a lot about his life and family, and hoped he would continue to beat the odds to have more time with them. We found a magnet on the range hood that says “A joyful heart makes a cheerful face”, good words to live by! We are very sorry for your loss. Bill and Sherry

You will be missed Uncle David. Much love to Ronda, Aaron and Paul.

From: Bruce Cafferky
Relation: Friend

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Dave and Ronda over the last five years and have seen Dave handle his illness with class, dignity and strength. Even when he wasn’t feeling his best he had a smile on his face and had the strength of character to be strong and cheerlful.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Ronda and the family at this difficult time – I am very sorry for your loss.

From: Rachel Kimler
Relation: Nurse

I didn’t know David for long, or all that well, but he touched me deeply. It’s not very ofter that people make such a lasting impression; he was a lovely man who had grace and presence. It was an honor to care for him. My deepest condolences to Rhonda and the rest of his lovely family.
