David Cathers

May 10, 1941 - August 10, 2021

Tribute

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, David George Cathers. After a hard-fought battle with cancer, David (80) passed peacefully on the morning of August 10, 2021, and he was reunited with the love of his life, Beverly.

Dave was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on May 10th, 1941 to Elsie (Mayoh) and George Cathers. David moved to Ladysmith, B.C. with his parents in 1945, and was raised in the family home in Saltair, graduating from Chemainus Secondary in 1959. After high school, David entered the Royal Canadian Air Force, stationed in Centralia, Ontario before being discharged and returning to BC where he married Beverly Joan Best in 1962.

The couple moved to Vancouver where David continued to work for MacMillan Bloedel.  In 1979, with a growing family of 5, David and Beverly moved to Agassiz, B.C. and bought their business, The Harvest Market. They sold the store in the 90’s and returned to returned to Vancouver Island, settling down in their home in Duncan..

David had an exceptional green thumb and loved puttering in his garden, canning and winemaking.  As a life member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 53, he was an active member of his community.

Predeceased by his wife, Beverly of 56 years, David is survived by his children Paul, Kim (Richard), Chrisy, Ron and seven grandchildren –  Kai, Kinsey, Nicolas, George, Elyse, Kristian and Sophia. David also leaves behind siblings Marlene, Shirley, and Ken (Inge), along with many relatives, friends and Pepper – his faithful pup.

A special thank you to Dr. James Broere, and the team at Chemainus Medical Clinic and Dr. Michael Garfinkle of Nanaimo for the exceptional medical care and support provided to David.

Due to restrictions related to COVID-19, a memorial service will be arranged at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honour of David to The Canadian Cancer Society https://cancer.ca/
