Dan Tyrrell

Tribute

It’s with great sorrow that we would like to announce that after a courageous battle with cancer Dan Tyrrell passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Dan graduated from McMaster University in 1963 with a degree in Engineering and a distinguished career as an engineer. Dan was instrumental in implementing and designing innovative solutions working on the Canada games pool, Carleton, University Pool, Ivor Wynne Stadium and Hamilton City Hall.

Known for his endless love of the ocean and sailing, Dan followed his dream and for 14 years sailed a charter boat in the Virgin Islands. Eventually Dan and Donna settled in Chemainus in 2004 where Dan kept continuing his passion for sailing and project around the house.

Dan was a dedicated member of the Masonic Order, Eastern Star, Shrine and Legion.

Dan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather is survived by his loving wife Donna, his loving daughter Annie and her husband Stephen and their daughter Stephanie Miller (Mathew), Brendan Walkom (Anki), and Brianna Walkom, his sisters Sheila Exner and Helen Ann Livingston.  He also leaves behind a loving extended family.

The family wish to thank the doctors and nurses at Cowichan District Hospital for their loving care.

Dan’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

I express my deepest sympathy in this time of sorrow. The Bible promises that your loved one will soon live again on a beautiful paradise earth when death will be no more in John 5:28, 29.

From: Tom Klein
Relation: Friend of Dan’s daughter Annie.

Dear Annie,

I was so very sorry to hear about the passing of your father, Dan. Please accept my deepest condolences.

After reading the tribute, it appears Dan’s legacy was one of dedication and service—not only through his warm and generous spirit, but also through his involvement with the Masonic Order, Eastern Star, Shrine, and the American Legion. I know these organizations reflect a life devoted to brotherhood, compassion, and community.

I remember how fondly you spoke of him and the bond you shared. It was easy to see how deeply you loved and admired him. Dan’s good nature and his passion for sailing painted a picture of someone who lived with heart and purpose.

May your memories bring you comfort, and may his love continue to guide you in the days ahead.

With sympathy and care,
Tom
