Christopher Wigley

August 28, 1941 - February 23, 2015

Tribute

Not just an adored husband to Gwen, Brother to Mary, Father to Helen and Scott, Grandfather to Christina, Elizabeth and Claire, Father-in-law to Sherry and Eric and Grandfather-in-law to Jordan, brother-in-law to John (Irene), but also a wonderful, caring and compassionate human being.
As a Professional Engineer (Mechanical) during his working life it was always important to him to do what was right, even when it was not popular. After retirement and his diagnosis of COPD, he devoted his life to research of his disease and then armed with considerable knowledge, helping others with the disease. He was a strong advocate for fellow patients, helping to bring about changes as the only patient who was asked to be part of the Lung Health Framework, a national healthcare initiative, working on the standards of care for patients with COPD. He was also part of the creation of both local and internet support groups, spending hours each day answering emails with advice and support. The additional challenge of esophageal cancer in 2010 was a tough row to hoe and he fought a valiant battle until the last few days when he was just too tired to continue. Up until the last week of his life he often received 45-80 emails a day and he always tried his best to respond.
As my husband he was my lover, my friend and my other half. He supported me in anything I wanted to do. He will be waiting for me on the other side.

A private family ceremony to be held on Saturday , Feb 28, 2015. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Vancouver Island Cancer Society.   http://donate.bccancerfoundation.com/goto/chriswigley

Dear Gwen and family, We were deeply saddened to learn of Chris’s passing. We spent many warm and humerous social events etc. with Chris. He was a cosumate gentleman who had keen insights on almost every topic. We hated to see Gwen and Chris leave Iowa but treasure the few wonderful years we had with them on the Mississippi River. I will miss our quarterly phone conversations. He was a talented and empathetic to all who knew him. May he rest in peace. Our deepest heartfeldt sympathy to all of you.

Relation: Friend

We are deeply saddened by the loss of such a brilliant, humorous, wonderful, and gentle soul here on earth in the passing of Chris. We cherish that we had the great fortune of getting to know him and Gwen. Their deep love for one another and fellow man has always been a source of inspirational influence in our lives as they constantly gave of themselves to lift others up. We take comfort in knowing that Chris is a peace in Heaven and is now without suffering. God bless both Chris and Gwen.
