Christopher Peter Cameron
June 16, 1973 - June 21, 2022
Tribute
On June 21, just days after his 49th birthday, Christopher Peter Cameron passed away at Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan, BC. Chris was predeceased by his father James Cameron his grandparents Ellen & Peter Johnson and Shirley & Lorne Cameron, and his step-sister Tori Callsen.
Chris is survived by his Mom Faye (Doug) Callsen, brother Todd (Nicole) Cameron, sister Stacy (Jeff) Middlemiss and step-siblings Staci Nelson, Ryan Callsen, and Darci Callsen, his cherished nieces and nephews Raven, Dailynn, Eperly, Jack, best friend David Peake, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Christopher lived the majority of his life in Lake Cowichan, where he will be remembered for his kind heart and gentle soul. #22 on the Lakers was never afraid to go up against anyone, regardless of size or strength, especially if that person was going after one of the smaller guys on the team. He always wanted his team to succeed, no matter the sport, and he surely didn’t want any big city teams thinking they were better than Lake Cowichan.
Chris was a romantic and a protector, he was loyal and sensitive. He was a creative and talented artist and spent countless hours drawing cartoons of family and friends. He was adored by the girls and idolized by the guys. Remembered for his blonde luscious mullet and his crisp blue eyes. He was the cool guy, but never let it go to his head – he was kind to all, no matter what side of the tracks you were from. He always made time for the younger kids that looked up to him and he had a way of making everyone feel special and important.
His love for animals started young, and once he was old enough to care for one on his own, he rarely went without. The loves of his life were his dogs Murdoch, Clyde and Daisy and his cats Alice and Boo. No matter what Chris was going through, he always made sure that his animals came first.
Christopher struggled over the past 25 years with his mental and physical health, his resilience and strength through it all is admired by all that knew him. His last few years earth side were spent making amends and strengthening relationships. Nothing brought Chris more joy than having an opportunity to spoil a niece or nephew or anyone for that matter; he love giving people gifts. He never once used social media or a cellphone, instead he picked up the telephone and called many or would write cards or letters and send them in the mail.
Chris’s family would like to thank all of the countless doctors and nurses that cared for him over the years, especially Dr. Froese. A special thank you to the Peake family for always being there for Chris, as well as all of his wonderful neighbours and friends that cared for and watched over him throughout the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm on July 9th at the Lake Cowichan Firehall – all are welcome.

Relation: Through the local library
Chris Cameron was someone I very much hoped to meet. I only knew him as a friendly voice on the phone when he called with questions about his library account. Often when I filled shifts at the library in Lake Cowichan, his name would come up on caller ID. He was personable, making an effort to know and remember a new name. The last time we spoke, he expressed his fondness for banana bread and appreciation for the baking he had received from friends. These thoughts came to mind as I recently baked a loaf. Reflecting on his life story from the newspaper, of a warm-hearted man whom the community respected, it came as no surprise to learn that he was those things and more – his reputation preceded him.
