Charles Christian McCarty
June 21, 1956 - March 21, 2025
Tribute
Christian was born in Norman, Oklahoma to Noel Pass and Dona Hogue. He is predeceased by his dad Noel. Christian is survived by his wife of over 15 years, Erin Tett; his daughter Deyla, mom Dona, brother Noel, brother Brian and sister Denise.
Christian was an IT innovator at the start of the internet age. He created the internet radio music site Songplanet to give exposure to independent artists worldwide. He lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, California, Georgia, Arkansas, and finally in Seattle, WA, within the 200-mile diameter set by Erin on the eHarmony website. After meeting through the site, they married three months later at the Chemainus Lake dock. Christian played guitar and he and Erin shared a loving life, full of laughter and music, singing together in harmony.
Christian’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
A warm thank you is extended to the entire medical team at our Duncan ICU.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rocky Point Bird Observatory.

We loved Christian for his gentleness and his gift for creating his own happiness, living the beauty of each day with Erin. When he spoke, it was always thoughtful and incisive. His loving presence now becomes part of the air we breathe. Our deep condolences for Erin. We know she will always hold Christian in her heart.

Sending strength and healing to Erin and all of Christians family. I didn’t know Christian well but I have gotten to know Erin over the years . He will be missed for his neighbourly wave and the “hello” we shared from time to time when our paths crossed on our street. His life was well lived and although cut short, he will live on for eternity in the hearts of those that loved him so deeply like Erin.
My sincere condolences.

I am so very sorry and heart broken at the loss of your soul mate and my Brother. His talents brought many years of brotherly awe and may smiles. I am so happy that he was able to share a part of his life with you, you made his life complete in so many ways. I will always cherish forever the memories of a little brother looking up to his older brother and I hope to continue building in these memories with you. With all my love and support. Noel

I first met Christian through his online independent artist website, SongPlanet.com. One of its unique features was a live chat during the DJ Shows. Through this chat, I met and became friends with several of the musicians and helped a musician friend of mine get his music heard. Christian’s efforts had a huge impact on the independent music community, providing attention to very talented musicians that had not found a home in the commercial realm.
My personal expertise is birds, not music, and when Christian found a baby bird in the ashes of his fireplace, he reached out to me. From that fluke occasion we became true friends, and that endured for about twenty years. Christian was a caring person, both for people and animals. Over his life he rescued many cats, including Boodah, who travelled with him from Georgia, Arkansas, Washington, and finally British Columbia. Boodah passed just a week before Christian. I hope they are back together now! Christian’s move to BC was the result of finding his perfect match, Erin. They wasted no time to make it official and were constant companions. While I will miss our occasional conversations and visits, my heart is with Erin as she moves through the next stage of her life without her soulmate. Condolences also to his family, who I know wish there was more time to spend with him.

I was a dj on SongPlanet and enjoyed working with Christian. His devotion to getting artists exposure on SP, “Where Independent Artists Get Heard” was a gift to all of us. We djs were also musicians, and we were free to explore his extensive library while we spun tunes by so many talented artists, including his music as well.
Rest well, Axe. Condolences to Erin, family and friends.
