Tribute

With heavy hearts, Cecil Fisks’ family announces the passing of our dear father, husband, grandfather, son, brother and friend to many. He passed peacefully after a short illness to join his pre-deceased wife, Beverly Wynona (Nonie) Fisk.

‘Cec’ as he was known to almost everyone, was born in Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia as the eldest and only son of Carl and Mary Fisk. His parents and two sisters, Francis Dillman (Fisk) and Bernice Young (Fisk) have pre-deceased their son and brother.

Cec moved from the NS family farm to Powell River, BC shortly after graduating high school, crossing Canada by train to find employment at Powell River’s Pulp and Paper mill. Married in 1961, not long after he and Nonie welcomed their son Kevin. Shortly after that, the family moved to Duncan and welcomed a daughter, Caren, establishing a lifelong presence in the valley.

He joined the Crofton Pulp and Paper Mill as a paper maker in 1964; an employment journey of 30 years until his retirement in the early 90’s. He was happily married for almost 60 years and proudly built 2 homes; family and retirement. A lifelong love of woodworking blended into retirement where he handcrafted tractor trailer logging trucks for each of his grandchildren … a point of pride. Along with Nonie, Cec loved curling and spent his later years continuing to follow the sport (along with the Blue Jays!).

Left to celebrate his life are son Kevin (Dana), daughter Caren (Will) along with grandchildren; Steven, Drew (Hannah), Kirstin, Quintin (Zoey) as well as step-grandchildren Alecia and Naomi.

The family would like to deeply thank the many friends, neighbors and people who cared for Cec; The kind and compassionate staff at Cairnsmore Place, who helped make Cecil’s transition and final year more joyful than he thought it might be. We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the caring staff at Mann’s Pharmacy. They went out of their way in recent years to make sure Cecil always had his latest medications. To those not named, a heartfelt thank you … hopefully you know who you are, the list is long and the people loved.
