Carol Russell
July 21, 1945 - December 13, 2009
Tribute
Carol Patricia Russell (nee Beleyowski) was born on July 21, 1945 in Prince Albert Saskatchewan, the youngest of five children. She attended university in Saskatoon and then moved to Chicago in the early 1970’s where she lived and had a career in advertising for over nine years. Carol moved back to Canada in the late 1970’s and was hired on by Southland (owners of the 7-11 convenience stores) as their western region purchasing manager and was later transferred to Vancouver in the early 1980’s.
Carol and her husband Quentin met at a dinner party in December 1985 and were married on Nov. 23, 1986 in Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver.
Carol and Quentin together developed the Earl Of Sandwich chain of sandwich shops in Vancouver beginning in 1987 and retired from the business in 1997.
Carol and her husband moved to Victoria in 1997 and in November of 2000 her wonderful grandson Jacob was born and they quickly formed a close bond. When Jacobs’ mother Naomi passed away in 2008, he came to live with Carol and husband Quentin in North Cowichan where the bond grew even stronger and Jacob was to benefit from Carol’s wisdom and warm, caring love.
Carol leaves behind to mourn her, her husband Quentin, grandson Jacob Russell (pictured), siblings Marie A. Kernaghan (Fred), Gene Beleyowski, Bob Beleyowski (Gloria), Helen Baszuki (Paul), sisters in-law Suzanne Gomez (Jose), Deborah Prangnell (Mick) and brother-in-law Daniel (Gayle) and many other friends and relatives throughout Canada and the United States including especially supportive friends Dot, Barry, Rick and Barb all of Victoria B.C.
Carol was a gentle, loving woman who fought like a tigress for over two years in her courageous fight against breast cancer and finally had to let go on Dec. 13, 2009 in the comfort of her own home while holding the hand of her husband.
A Celebration of Carol”s life will be held at the Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Dr., Victoria B.C. on Saturday January 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com

Dear Uncle Quentin,
I am very sorry to hear the news. Mom called me in Israel yesterday and told me. I want to tell you that Auntie Carol was a wonderful woman who was full of encouragement. I always felt encouraged and supported by her and she was very caring. Ever since I can remember, it has always been a joy to come to your house. Carol and you have always been so inviting and so caring. I know mom loved her and I know I will miss her a lot. I love you guys and my prayers are with you and Jake.

Carol’s passing has left an enormous hole in this family. She fought the battle with cancer with great courage and dignity. She will be remembered for her wonderful smile, her great laugh, her open arms, her generosity of spirit and her love of life. Carol and Quentin hosted many, many family dinners over the years. She was an amazing cook and loved to see people enjoy her food. The card games and conversation after dinner were a pleasure for all who were lucky enough to be there. This family was truly blessed to have had Carol in it for so many years. Carol will always be remembered, loved and honoured by me and those who knew her.
Love, Suzanne and Jose

Our thoughts are with everyone back in Canada, especially my Uncle Quentin. A few months ago, Jill and I were watching our wedding video and Aunt Carol gave us some wonderful advice that was shared with her by my Grandfather on her own wedding day. “Always share a laugh together. Everyday.
This is how I will remember Aunt Carol. Laughing. All of my memories of her are full of her wonderful laughter.
Our thoughts and love are with you.
