Carl Stuart Minard

January 23, 1930 - June 21, 2022

Tribute

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carl Stuart Minard on June 21, 2022 in his 93rd year. Son of Leroy (Roy), brother of Avery, Carl is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Elizabeth, their two children, Richard (Rick) and Marion, spouses Cheryl and James, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Born and raised on a farm in Queens County, Nova Scotia, he moved to Ontario withnhis brother to look for work and where he met and married Elizabeth. Settling in Brampton he started in the aerospace industry but spent most of his working life with the Ford Motor Company until retiring, and then moved to a Vancouver Island retirement community not far from Cowichan Bay. In his youth he never lived near the ocean although one of his uncles was a tugboat captain on the Bay of Fundy. He was always attracted to the water even though ironically he didn’t know how to swim.

He had many good friends and neighbors in his working and later years and had a team of healthcare professionals taking care of him. Thank you to all the people that helped along the way. He never failed to mention all the great support he had around him.

Carl had many hobbies during his life from making beer & wine to breeding tropical fish. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, boating and fishing. He spent a lot of time on Georgian Bay and in the Beaver Valley initially planning to retire there. In the end, the weather was the deciding factor. In some ways he was an inventor, always thinking of “a better way” to do whatever project he was working on. Fish room, wine cellar, a carport with a boat storage system, he never wavered on how to do something even if it was “the Carl” way, and persisted as he learned new things like how to manage today’s technology.

He genuinely cared about and loved being with people, to have fun, enjoy a good laugh, share a joke and listen to country music. Cheers Dad, you will always be our “Okie from Muskogee”.
