Brian Perry-Whittingham

Tribute
Brian Perry-Whittingham was born near London, England on 21 January 1936 and passed away in Cowichan District Hospital, Duncan, B.C on 13 February 2020.
Survived by his loving wife Rosslyn Eve and her children Gary, Allison and Keith Eve and their families and his children Charles and Natasha. Also leaves behind his brother Tony Perry-Whittingham and family.
Predeceased by his father Charles Perry RAF during World War II, his mother Kathleen Whittingham and his stepfather Stanley Whittingham.
Brian graduated from UBC School of Medicine, completing his internship at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C. in 1964, then started a solo family practice serving Sooke and surrounding area for over forty years. It was the epitome of “the old time Doc” as he actually made house calls.
Being community minded he was a member of Sooke Chamber of Commerce, Sooke Lions Club and South Vancouver Island Rangers. He also served in the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve for several years.
Brian enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, gardening and was eclectic collector, he could often be found at auctions and local casinos in his spare time.
Celebration of Life will be held at H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre on Saturday February 29, 2020 at 2:00 pm.

It is with deep sadness that I acknowledge the passing of a true friend; albeit, with limited time together these last few years. I will miss his gruffness (gentleness); his quiet demeanor (loud); and his passionate way of expressing himself (with gusto). His friendly games dirty canasta will live on in my families memory for ever. I think often on his visits to Sooke District Income Tax offices for coffee and the never ending cigarette (blue smoke environment); his expounding on any of a thousand issues that plagued his life; and, yet his humour and love of life were not always hidden. He was a kind and generous man to his friends and he treasured them deeply. Good-bye my friend.

Brian was a very active member of the South Vancouver Island Rangers club for many years and it was often very entertaining when he got up to speak at our meetings. He was our club Parliamentarian and could quote Roberts Rules from memory when needed! We at the SVIR are very sorry for your loss …

Sorry to hear that PW has passed on..I liked to hear him speak at Ranger meetings, he had a way with the English Language…we had lots of good conversations over the years. He served as Head Ranger and served on the Board of Directors for several terms. My thoughts go out to the family at this time.

Dear Rosslyn, was sorry to see that Dr Perry-Whittingham had passed away. I had visited you two back a few years ago and certainlybrecalled him from early nursing days at RJH. I think most of our class had a crush on him. He stitched up my husband’s leg once after an accident in Sooke. Anyway, just to say I’m thinking of you and hope you are doing ok. during our stay in Sooke fall 1967-spring 1972 we were the recipients of Brian excellent care. he was the best diagnostician and yes not only did make house call We could also call him at home in case of emergency. we will always be grateful.
