Brendan passed away after an illness in the Edmonton University Hospital, Alberta, where he had resided for the last 10 years. Born in the Cowichan Valley, Brendan was predeceased by his parents Dennis and Moira Gaunt, brothers Sean and Paul, and survived by his daughter Shauna, her mother Julie, and brother Eamon.

Brendan was educated at Queen of Angels, Quamichan Junior Secondary and Cowichan Senior Secondary where he graduated in 1983.
