Bob Roesler

August 22, 1954 - August 19, 2024

Tribute

Bob passed away in his home on August 19, 2024 at Shawnigan Lake, BC. He was predeceased by his Mother, Ruth Schinkewitz; Father, Reinhold Roesler; and Nephews, Theron and Jason Short and Arlon Maxfield. Bob is survived by his Stepfather, Gunther Schinkewitz; Aunt Edith Bratka, His sister, Margit (Pat) Short and families; His sister, Karin (Brian) Gropp and families; His brother, Deitmar (Robyn) Schinkewitz; nephew, Jeremy Schinkewitz. Bob also had many great and great-greats-nieces and nephews. Also many cousins in Canada and Germany.

Gerd Alexander Roesler (Per his adamant request was called Bob all his life.) He was born to Ruth Hannah and Reinhold Roesler in Port Alberni, BC, Vancouver Island on August 22, 1954. He lived there until his 20’s where he had various jobs, including working at the local sawmill and with his father on the log booms. Bob also lived in Langley working the log booms on the Fraser River for a period of time. He later moved to Victoria where he managed group homes for the mentally disabled for a number of years. Bob transitioned into driving for Handi-Dart for 20 years, again helping the disabled and elderly, who were very fond of Bob. Due to back issues and subsequent surgery, he was forced into early retirement where he spent his remaining years in his beloved Shawnigan Lake.

Bob was loved by all his neighbors. Even with physical limitations, he strove to help them through difficult situations. Many enjoyed his culinary skills and raved about the feasts they could enjoy on holidays. Bob had a cookbook he was working on and hoped to publish one day.

Anyone who also knew Bob knew he was a crazy cat lover!…they were his beloved fur babies. A stray always found a home with him.

“Until a person has loved an animal, a part of their soul remains unawakened.”

-Arlon
