Blair Pierre Joseph Pigeon

May 16, 1965 - March 28, 2015

Tribute

PIGEON, Blair Pierre Joseph

With great sadness we announce Blair's passing on March 28, 2015. Blair will be lovingly remembered and carried each day in the hearts of his wife Mairi Claire and his daughters Jacqueline and Rachel, his parents Henri and Dorothy, brother Paul and sister Marla (Rod). He will be dearly missed by his sister and brother in law Diane and Peter, nephews Tristan (Janina), Andrew (Yuri) and Graham, nieces Caitlin and Allison, great niece and nephews Michaela, Brock and Yannick, his Uncle Robert (Mary Ann) and Aunt Jill and their families, his extended in law family and the many friends he gathered over the years.

Born May 16, 1965, Blair grew up in Vancouver attending Shaughnessy Elementary and Prince of Wales High School. He went on to study Forestry at BCIT and at the University of Alberta and earned his MBA through Royal Roads University. His employment included MacMillan Bloedel, Western Forest Products, TimberWest and the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources.

Always an athlete, Blair spent many years playing sports including baseball, soccer, rugby, skiing, lacrosse and, of course, hockey. Saturday nights on the ice with the Saints and the Leafs and Wednesdays tossing the lacrosse ball with the River Rats were highlights of his week.

Blair and Mairi met in 1989 and married in 1992, eventually settling in Duncan to raise their family. Blair truly believed that life was to be lived to the fullest and he worked to do just that. Happiest with his family beside him, together they travelled to Europe, Asia, Australia and  Central America. They camped, boated, skied, built jigsaw puzzles, celebrated holidays (both real and imagined), and played extreme bocce and croquet. Together they lived life and laughed…a lot!

Blair's proudest moments were the birth of his daughters. An amazing dad whether on the sidelines at their soccer and field hockey games, building birdhouses and swing sets, playing Busytown and hallway hockey, helping with homework or teaching them to ski, Blair supported, encouraged and loved his girls with all his heart.

A celebration of Blair's life will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Duncan on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, Blair would be happiest if you would spend time with your loved ones. Go for a hike with your family, visit your parents, take your partner for lunch, play a game…let them know you love them. Blair, we will miss you always. Forever in our hearts, we hope you are now soaring with the eagles.

Blair’s obituary describes a man who lived very thoroughly and put energy into every aspect of it. It’s not fair that his life has ended so soon. I realize that our paths have not crossed since our daughters attended school together but I just wanted you to know how sad I am for you and your girls. My thoughts are with you. Janet Fullerton

This is intended primarily for Henri and Dorothy Pigeon.

Blair and my son John Standfield were good friends, probably starting from rugby in high school.

Blair was often in our house, as I am sure John was in yours; and I remember Blair well and liked him very much. John, although he has not seen much of Blair for years, is truly distressed, as I am sure are all of his high school chums.

It seems to me from the details in the Notice of his passing that you must all be very proud of him, his accomplishments, and his family.

Henry and Dorothy – as a father I honestly can’t imagine anything harder to deal with; and it has already happened to several of Meg Standfield’s and my friends. As I am sure you know we lost Meg many years ago. My thoughts are with you in particular.

My daughter Susan is coming back to Canada for good – from Cape Town S.A. with two small children (2 and 4) and I am going to take Blair’s wish and spend as much time with them and John as I can.

Please accept my true sadness for Blair’s loss to you all.

My condolences to Blair’s family. He was a good man, always smiling, respectful and full of life. It is such a tragedy to lose such a vibrant and loving man. May your many fond memories give you comfort in these difficult times.

I am one of the staff who worked with Blair at Forest Tenures Branch here in VIctoria. We were all saddened to hear of Blair’s passing. He was a integral part of our team and will be missed. He was always friendly, approachable and worked hard. Blair found time for a quick visit each day. He never said anything negative about anyone and was quick to smile, crack a joke or initiate a minor prank (which was always tasteful). Blair left us far too soon and I hope his family finds comfort knowing how much we appreciated working with him.

Such sad news, which we know has affected you and your extended family as well as all Blair’s many friends. Our family has many wonderful memories of Blair, especially at the Arbutus Club hockey rink where we watched many an exciting game.
Our thoughts are with you

What seems like many years ago our family met Blair and his family.

We had joined a diversified Club in Vancouver because the writer , an “aging forty year old” had this burning desire to learn how to Skate and play Hockey. We enjoyed playing other Sports but Hockey was sooo fast and exciting! Hence Gary met Blair and played Hockey together.

When I first watched Blair his speed on the Ice and lack of fear amazed me!

Words cannot bring back someone you love. Youi fight back tears and you wonder why didn’t I do this or why didn’t I do that when they were with us? Your scribe feels tears welling and seeping down my cheeks…

Blair and our son, Gary,—they played on the same “line” in “Midget” and earlier Hockey teams so I kinda got to know Blair as they played many games together. Blair was a “clean” feisty athlete. I loved watching him and our son play those games. So what else can I say —-his spirit—“undaunting” ; his outstanding speed and skill!—but—notwithstanding all of that he always carried himself in a manner that commanded respect!

We will miss him

All our love to everyone in the “Pidgeon” family
