Betty Jean MacFarlane
February 1, 1929 - December 26, 2019
Tribute
Mom passed away one month shy of her 91 birthday. Known as mom-mom or Mrs. Mac to many, she lived every day anticipating meeting her Lord and Saviour.
Mom was born in Lynn Valley, North Vancouver, and as a young teacher taught in Powell River where she met and married Alan, the love of her life. In 1964, the family moved to Duncan. After dad’s unexpected death, she chose as a young widow to embrace life with all its adventures and challenges. She loved to travel and craved knowledge, always eager to study something new including languages, current events and navigating her Smart Phone. Her stories, poems and sayings are legendary.
Her greatest joy was her children. She leaves behind John (Lenka); David (Vickie); Alana (Daniel); Dale (Rita); Lélean, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and generations of people who loved her.
Her quick wit, twinkling eyes and helping hands will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Life will be held on January 18, 2020, 1:00 pm at New Life Church, 1839 Tzouhalem Road, Duncan BC, with opportunity to share stories and memories.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Abbeyfield House (Duncan) 250-748-1352, where mom last called home.

I still remember when I first met Mom-Mom. It was at the airport in Victoria on an afternoon in August 2011. Me, a shy, very tired 16-year old, Lélean and Mom-Mom drove back to Duncan. That day, I met a wonderful, caring and loving lady, who always made sure, that everyone around her had a good time. I will never forget the moments I shared with Mom-Mom at christmas, thanksgiving, other regular days and that first day in the car from Victoria to Duncan. I’ll miss her with her beautiful smile and her funny jokes that made anyone chuckle.
I’ll always cherish these moments I shared with her.
