Tribute

Betty Davies – one of five daughters born in Carnduff, Saskatchewan to Les and May Ramsey, Betty is survived by one of those sisters, Margaret Grace Barnes of Nanaimo. Betty married Daniel Peter Davies on March 11, 1950 after meeting at their employment, TransCanada Airlines. They had two children, Bryan Peter (1951) and Lesley Jill (1953). Peter, a war hero, was one of the last Canadians to die of polio in 1954 in their home city of Montreal. With her mother, May Ramsey, Betty drove her two infants on a grand two year road trip of North America in her 1956 Ford Fairlane pulling their color coordinated 28 foot trailer along behind. Two years later, adventure completed, the family stopped on Vancouver's north shore and that remained her home until last year. As circumstances allowed, Betty keenly travelled the world with her family. Bryan tragically died in an automobile accident in Greece in 1969. Betty was a nurse, latterly in public health. Lesley Jill married Robert Zurrer in 1985. They gave Betty her two cherished granddaughters, Emily (Gothenburg, Sweden) and Annie (Crofton). Betty moved to Duncan late in 2013 to be closer to her family in her last days. She led a life of resolute and ladylike adventure. All her family will miss her greatly

Dear Jill – I am so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing away – what a lady! I have very fond Alden Lane memories of her – her warmth, her laughter and her very lovely garden. I often drive by her house, and always think of her. Next time I’m together with the clan we will raise a glass to a resilient, smart, brave and fun-to-be-with lady!

My thoughts are with all of you on the island. I wish I had been
there to show how much Betty had meant to me as a playgoer and
a true companion in spirit. Let me know when there will be the memorial. Thanks for all the phone calls.
Love, Joan Cregan

Dear Jill, I first knew your mum when we both worked at Sutherland School. I was the Junior Counsellor and Betty was our PHN. I enjoyed our times together there, and later when we moved to Edgemont and had our family, I would see her for time to time. I respected and admired her bright spirit in spite of losing her husband and son, which I can only imagine the struggle it must have been to carry on. She had you and your girls, and I know she must have been so happy to have been able to be with you for her last months and days. I tried to send this note about 3 weeks ago, but the site was not helpful. Hopefully this will get through to you now.
with love, We’ll remember, and she will live on through you and your family. Susan Hyam N.V. Teacher (38) years
