Barry Palmer

February 2, 1947 - November 1, 2022

Tribute

A dear husband, father and grandpa Barry Palmer passed away on Tuesday November 1st, 2022, after a very valiant fight against pneumonia brought on by Covid. He proudly beat cancer, found in 2020, and was so ready to use his new knees. In the end the pneumonia was all too much for his body and his heart to handle. He passed peacefully but leaves a very big piece of our family missing. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Hayley Jane.

He was our rock. Loyal, steadfast, never wanting more than he had. Content to sit and watch for whales, birds and enjoy the view from his piece of paradise surrounded by his animals especially his beloved Newfoundland dogs. Unwavering in his love for his wife of 54 years, Linda; his children (Samantha, Kris, and Ross); grandchildren (Mitchell, Kaleigha, Carson, Delainey and Chase) and the animals he held so dear.

Born on February 2nd, 1947, in Winchester England, he will forever be our “Groundhog” on Groundhog’s Day. After emigrating to Canada in 1980 with his wife and three small children they forged a life full of adventures and laughter. Over the years they lived in Calgary (AB), Kelowna (BC), Winfield (BC), Sidney (BC) – but Dad found his everything on a hilltop in Cobble Hill, BC. Never afraid to speak his mind and tell it like it was, he would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He leaves behind not only his family but a lifetime of friends both in Canada and England. We love you forever and will cherish all the memories that are embedded in our hearts.

Relation: A wonderful friend for many years we were related by dog

You were such a good friend and always gave honest advice. I will treasure the memories we made at dog shows and around the table. I will never forget the support you gave when my Brad was ill and leaving us. Your passing has left a hole in my little world and I will never forget you my friend. There are so many giant wagging tails of so many Newfoundland Dogs around you now, scruff them for me, until we meet again. Love Kathy

For well over 40 years, I had the honour and privilege to have known Barry. He always shot straight from the hip, telling it as it was. Loved his family, wife and animals, ferociously loyal and an all round wonderful man. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. We send our deepest condolences to Linda and all his family at this sad time, knowing he is at peace. Love Annette and David x

Linda we are so sorry to hear of Barry’s passing. He was such a dear soul. You and Barry were one of the first people to welcome me at the dog shows and have stayed friends for the past 30 years. I will miss his voice at club meetings and his smile in person. Cherish the memories, know he is watching over you and I hope you can feel our group hug tightly around you. We will miss you Barry 💕 🙏

Relation: Great friend and Newfoundland dog fancier

Always with a smile and a quip, Barry warmed the hearts of all who knew him. His love for his family, kindness towards his friends, and his great love for Newfoundland dogs was his Hallmark in life. Always willing to share a story and a glass of wine with his legendary hug Barry made me smile every time we got together.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to our wonderful friend Linda and all her family.
He was well loved 💕

I have rewritten this so many times. There will be so much to miss about Barry, he was such a good friend and a great Newfoundland dog lover. Through thick and thin Barry and Linda made a beautiful family together and opened their doors to everyone to share their home and to every animal needing help. We will miss you so much and know you were taken far too soon. Our love and hugs go out to Linda, Kris, Sam and Ross and family. Barry was one of a kind and a man to be proud of. Your family created so many stories and memories to look back on and it was evident he is so proud of all of you! We send our biggest hugs to you all.

Linda, I’m so sorry to hear about Barry. I’ve been thinking of you both and it seems Barry’s cancer was resolved only to have this happen. Life can be so cruel. Love and thoughts
