Barry Palmer

February 2, 1947 - November 1, 2022

A dear husband, father and grandpa Barry Palmer passed away on Tuesday November 1st, 2022, after a very valiant fight against pneumonia brought on by Covid. He proudly beat cancer, found in 2020, and was so ready to use his new knees. In the end the pneumonia was all too much for his body and his heart to handle. He passed peacefully but leaves a very big piece of our family missing. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Hayley Jane.

He was our rock. Loyal, steadfast, never wanting more than he had. Content to sit and watch for whales, birds and enjoy the view from his piece of paradise surrounded by his animals especially his beloved Newfoundland dogs. Unwavering in his love for his wife of 54 years, Linda; his children (Samantha, Kris, and Ross); grandchildren (Mitchell, Kaleigha, Carson, Delainey and Chase) and the animals he held so dear.

Born on February 2nd, 1947, in Winchester England, he will forever be our “Groundhog” on Groundhog’s Day. After emigrating to Canada in 1980 with his wife and three small children they forged a life full of adventures and laughter. Over the years they lived in Calgary (AB), Kelowna (BC), Winfield (BC), Sidney (BC) – but Dad found his everything on a hilltop in Cobble Hill, BC. Never afraid to speak his mind and tell it like it was, he would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He leaves behind not only his family but a lifetime of friends both in Canada and England. We love you forever and will cherish all the memories that are embedded in our hearts.

So sorry to hear about Barry

From: Ross Palmer
Relation: Son

Hi Dad. I still can’t believe you’re gone. I miss you everyday. I miss your hugs. I miss your advice and opinions. I miss your voice so much. I could be having such a bad day, but hearing your voice was like a tonic for the soul.
You and mom were the best parents in the world. You let us experience so much and I have so many memories of what we did as a family.
We are such a close family and you were our Rock. Our anchor.
You raised three wonderful kids and I hope what I learned I can pass down and do the same for my little guy, Chase.
You are such a strong man. I remember when visiting you guys, just before leaving I’d hug you and I remember how secure and comforting your hugs were.
You and mom both taught us it’s okay to show emotion. As I write this I am crying. And that’s ok.
I miss you dad. Chase misses his grandpa.
Sam, Kris and myself will look after mom. No need to worry.
I won’t say goodbye as that is final.
Until we meet again. I love you dad.

I’m so sorry to hear of Barry’s passing. I have such fond memories of kids, dogs, animals galore, cherries and walnuts, loads of good food but most of all laughter. The little saplings Barry gave us are all tall trees now. Ray and I enjoyed it all, and now they are both gone. Miss you all.
