Baldur Bjornson

June 24, 1922 - July 22, 2013

Tribute

It is with sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the peaceful passing of  Baldur Bjornson on Monday July 22, 2013.  Baldur was born 91 years ago on the family farm in Framnes, Manitoba.   He grew up to be a man known for his physical strength and an even stronger independent spirit, which led him to an early life of adventure as a trapper and bush pilot in the Interlake region of Manitoba.  He later brought his creative skills to work as a self-employed furniture maker and carpenter.  He met and fell in love with his beloved Betty when they were seated across from each other at a dinner/dance, and they married in 1946. They resided in Winnipeg and Arborg with their three children, and in 1967 moved the family to Duncan BC.

In his retirement years, Baldur loved to make new friends and was never without a project or a quest to acquire new skills.  He taught himself to build looms, bake bread, make sausages and homemade wine and even distill spirits.  He leaves behind his vegetable garden and flowers in full bloom.

Baldur is survived and missed by his wife Betty, sons Derek (Jocelyn), Kim (Dawn), and daughter Dora Leigh.  He was a proud “Afi” to grandchildren Stefan (Alicia), Erik, Kevin, Julian (Cara), Aris, Cameron, Emily, and Alexi, and a “Longafi” to great grandsons Owen, Collin, and Thorin.

Our heartfelt thanks to Drs. Glen Robinson and Willie Pewarchuk and the nursing staff at the CDH and Community Chemotherapy Centre for their wonderful care, and a very special thanks to Conni Konkin. In respect to Baldur’s wishes, there will be no funeral.
