Asher Christopher Savage
April 23, 1985 - May 13, 2024
Tribute
Born in Orange County, California on April 23, 1985, Asher Christopher Savage passed away in Duncan, BC, on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 39 years of age. Asher was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend.
Predeceased by Grandpa Bob, Asher is survived by his wife, Deborah, along with their loving children Benjamin, Eli, Ezekiel, and Abigail. He also leaves behind his father John, step-mother Ruth, mother Ferly, siblings Naomi (nephew Valentine), Brittany, Christian (Hannah & niece Noelle & nephew Micaiah), Ian (Eva), and Malachi (Ayla), Grandma Sondra, and Uncle Taylor. As well, he leaves in-laws Rob & Teresa, brother-in-law Adam (Jeanie & nephew Brody), sister-in-laws Nicole (Bryan), and Brittany (Cam). He leaves behind a large community of friends who were drawn to his infectious smile, laughter and sense of humour.
Asher was raised on Salt Spring Island where he learned and grew to love the outdoors, adventures, and cooking. Mission work such as attending YWAM in Australia and Street Invaders on the lower mainland was near and dear to his heart. He loved sharing his passion by spreading the work and word of the Lord and bringing people together. Asher and Deborah met in 2010 in Victoria and married in 2012. They shared many adventures on the island, including the great adventure of starting a family, and moved up to the Cowichan Valley in 2017.
Asher packed in a lifetime of fun and adventures in his 39 years. He loved going to Tofino with his friends for boogie-boarding as well as tubing down the river. Each summer he would spend time at church camp, attending with his family as well as cooking for children and volunteers; this was something he prided himself on. As a Red Seal Chef, Asher created wonderful feasts – he could whip up an amazing sandwich and would host elaborate gatherings. He was very creative and this extended into music; he enjoyed playing the drums and guitar, especially worship music. Asher was also active with softball in his community and could be found coaching and playing third base with laughter, cheeky comments, and encouragement to those around him. He enjoyed his entrepreneurial adventure with Sunset Island shave ice, bringing smiles to all those who enjoyed this cool treat. Camping, swimming, and exploring the outdoors were part of who he was and he loved sharing that with his children. Asher loved being a husband and father and he loved Jesus.
Asher will be laid to rest in a private green burial on Salt Spring Island, forever young. A colourful Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, June 2 at 3:00pm, at Oasis City Church: 3540 Auchinachie Rd, Duncan, BC V9L 4A4. Asher loved his Hawaiian shirts so please wear colours if you are so inclined.
In memory of Asher, contributions to the children for their future education would be appreciated by the family. Please contact family if you wish to donate to the children’s education.

Dear Asher, you were by my side for truly many of the most memorable moments of my life. We are the same age. We attended culinary-school together and during that adventurous era you showed me the incredible wonders of Vancouver Island and welcomed me into your home on Salt Spring. We spent many days and nights camping, fishing for crab, wandering the beaches and being young together. You are unlike anyone I have ever known and your light upon this earth has brought an untimely dusk upon all who were blessed to be your friend. I will miss you deeply, I wish I could have seen you and been held in your big loving bear arms one more time. I love you Asher and I will never forget you. My deepest condolences to everyone who suffers your loss.

Asher was an infectious man, whenever I was in the same building, I saw people drawn to him. My heart is broken because you’re gone. Many things I don’t understand, I’ll add this to my list. See you soon my friend, my prayers are with your family.
