Tribute

In loving memory

It is with sadness and loving memories the family of Arvid Ell announces his passing on Nov 17, 2022. Arvid was born in Port Alberni B.C. on Sept 20, 1937 to Sven and Ethel Ell. Arvid moved to Ladysmith B.C. in 1942 where he grew up and in turn raised his family.

Arvid is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol Ell, his children Arnold (Vivian) Ell and Denise (Ernesto) Mansueti, as well as his grandchildren Annie Mansueti (Jordan Frost) and Eric Mansueti (Kirsten Carpentier), along with his great granddaughter Giovanna Elle Mansueti-Felix. Arvid is also survived by his only sibling, Frida Schmidt of Duncan B.C.

Arvid began his working years as a Tree Scaler and spent 30+ years as a Longshoreman with Vancouver Island Stevedoring. Arvid retired at 60 years of age. During their retirement Arvid and Carol traveled to many places such as; Italy, to meet their son-in-law’s family, Sweden to reunite with Arvid’s family, Chile, Eastern Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mexico, and road trips in the 5th wheel to Alaska, and the Southern United States. They also had extensive camping trips throughout British Columbia.

Arvid thrived in the outdoors, whether he was in his garden, falling trees, cutting wood, camping, hunting or fishing, Arvid was in his happy place.
Arvid’s grandchildren were the lights of his life. He was so very proud of Annie, Eric and Giovanna and he loved them deeply. In the last few days of his life he said how lucky he was to have had so much time with them. Arvid’s 4-year-old great granddaughter, Giovanna was the wisest on the day of her “Funny Papa’s,” (as she called him) passing. She said, “Heaven got a handsome angel.”

Arvid’s family would like to thank Cairnsmore staff for their loving care over the past two years. Cremation with no service was Arvid’s request…but everyone who remembers Arvid is asked to celebrate Arvid’s life in their own way…raising a glass of their favourite drink in his memory would be quite appropriate.

Skal!
