Arthur (Art) Franklin Bossons

July 4, 1941 - September 2, 2018

Tribute

Arthur Franklin Bossons (Art) passed away suddenly at the age of 77 on September 2, 2018 at Cowichan District Hospital.  He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Gladys Bossons and brother Bob.  Art is survived by his wife Corinne, brother John (Aline), daughters Denise (Steve), Sandra (Kevin), Marla (Gord) and grandchildren, Spencer, Connor, John, Riley, Kerri and Denver.

Art was born in Duncan, BC on July 4, 1941.  Their family home was in Westholme where the 3 boys were raised.  He attended elementary school in Westholme then the family moved to Duncan where he attended Cowichan Secondary School and graduated in 1958.   He was a member of the Royal Canadian Army Cadet in 1956.

After graduating, Art started work in the old Chemainus sawmill in June 1966 in the chipper plant, as fireman’s assistant, fireman and then the steam plant.  He quit the mill to go logging/tree planting for a year then went back to the mill.  He worked through until he apprenticed as a millwright.  He worked until the mill closed in May 14, 1982.  He travelled and worked in Alberta after the mill shut.  He was then offered a job to work in the new sawmill in November 1985 as a millwright.  He retired from the mill after 40 years on July 1, 2002.

Art lived with his parents in Duncan until he was 32 years old.  He was introduced to a pretty redhead named Corinne Riley in 1970 and married her on December 22, 1972.  He instantly became a husband and father of two young girls.  Corinne & Art had another daughter to complete the family and they resided in Chemainus.

Art was a loving, caring, genuine, well-respected man who was supportive and involved in all his families’ day-to-day lives and lived his life to the fullest.  He would help anyone who asked him for it and never expected anything in return.  Art was a very active member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners.  He enjoyed going to the many parades, organizing the Salvation Army kettle campaign and any other fundraisers to support the community and brighten the lives of others. His other interests included the Fly Fishing Club, camping, hunting, taking walks with his dogs and helping his girl’s with any projects or renovations on their houses.

Some places he has travelled – Scotland, Iceland, Mexico, Hawaii, Virginia, California, Alaska, Nova Scotia, New Orleans, RV trip through Arizona with Jim & Barb Bossons.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, Masonic family, past co-workers and anyone else who had the pleasure of meeting him.

A service will be held at H.W.Wallace in Duncan on Saturday, September 29th @ 1 pm.

Donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.
