Tribute

As a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin and friend, Andy will be remembered for his contribution to all who knew and loved him.   Andy leaves behind his wife Maureen of 51 years, his two daughters and their families Karen, Clint and Colton Steigenberger and Andrea, Drayson, Anna and Nathan Akhurst.  Also dear to his heart were his brother Jerry, his cousin Brian and their families.

Andy was born in Rabbit Lake, SK, the son of Florence and Donald McLeod.  He lived there until he was 17 years old.  He attended Rabbit Lake schools from grade one through grade eleven at which time he moved to Saskatoon with his family.   Andy was a member of the first graduating class at Aden Bowman Collegiate in Saskatoon.

In Rabbit Lake he led a busy and active life.  Baseball and curling were a passion for him and his friends.  There was never a weekend when there wasn’t a tournament or bonspiel in one of the many surrounding towns.  Rabbit Lake was never far from his heart.  Even after growing up, moving away and getting married, he still loved to go back and at one point he and his family even had a cottage at the West End of Meeting Lake.

After high school, Andy went straight to work at Mid City Motors in Saskatoon.  He started on the Parts Counter but because he had a real talent with selling parts, his managers soon put him on the road as a traveller calling on small town dealerships and service stations selling parts.  He was a strong supporter of the Canadian Travellers Association and he once skipped his curling team to become the Canadian Travellers National Champions.  That was cause for big celebration at the Granite Curling Club.

Andy continued his love of curling in Saskatoon.  The Granite Curling Club was his second home when he was in town during the winter months and a little later, the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club became his favorite summer entertainment location.  His future wife, Maureen, was also an avid curler and an even better golfer.  After their marriage, they continued to share their love of these two sports for many years.

During this time Andy and Maureen welcomed their daughters Karen and Andrea to their family.   The girls have been a continuous source of pride for him.  The addition of granddaughter Anna and grandsons Colton and Nathan were also a source of constant joy for Andy.  He also held Clint and Drayson in the highest regard and knew he could always count on them when he needed help.

Andy will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.  The family would like to thank all of the staff at Ts’i’ts’uwatul’ Lelum  for their support and Dr. Glaude for his outstanding care including several home visits and phone calls.
