Amelia Catherine Mann

On Monday, October 6, 2025, Amelia Catherine Mann of Cobble Hill, British Columbia, passed away peacefully at the age of 68, with her beloved husband, Shawn, and family by her side. Her passing followed a diagnosis in 2024 of an aggressive form of carcinoma.
Amelia will be profoundly missed by her husband, Shawn, with whom she shared a beautiful life for 39 years. She was a loving mother whose memory will forever live on through her cherished children, Meranda (Colin) Owen-Flood and Michael (Shayal) Mann. Her greatest joy was her cherished grandson, Russell ‘Mowbray’ Owen-Flood, who affectionately referred to her as “Nonni.”
Amelia was born in Rovito, Italy, and immigrated to Canada in 1960. She was predeceased by her parents, Gino A. Scarpelli (2008) and Maria Chernia (Meranda) Scarpelli (2020) of Sarnia. She is also remembered by her many cousins in Ontario and Italy, as well as her four nieces and five nephews in the U.S.A.
Amelia was an accomplished student, teacher, and educator, affectionately referred to as the “teacher’s teacher.” She pursued her passion for learning at St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto, the University of Siena, and the University of Toronto OISE, earning degrees in English literature, Italian language, and a B.Ed.
She began her distinguished career graduating from and teaching for 23 years at St. Patrick’s in Sarnia, where she became the youngest English Department Head. She retired from Queen of Angels School in Duncan, B.C., where she worked in special education. The connection to Queen of Angels is especially treasured, as her son Michael attended and her grandson Russell currently attends the school on Vancouver Island, marking three generations with the school.
The family would like to express special gratitude to Nurses Meranda Owen-Flood, Michael Mann, and Shayal Mann for their exceptional care and comfort of their mother.
A heartfelt thank you is also extended to Dr. Miles Mannas (UBC/VGH) and the staff at Vancouver General Hospital, the Vancouver & Victoria Cancer Clinics, the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, and the Cowichan District Hospital for their unwavering support and compassionate care.
