Alexander Glen MacKenzie

Date of Death: August 17, 2026

Tribute

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the loss of (Alexander) Glen MacKenzie in Cowichan Bay.

Glen was born in Vancouver; he grew up there and in Point Roberts. He graduated from Prince of Wales high school in 1980.

Glen was an accomplished pilot, flying with his father at a young age and pursuing his private and commercial pilot designation. He attended Selkirk College of Aviation, and then started his own charter company bush flying in the Yukon where he lived for 10 years and started his family. He later moved to Saltspring Island.

He was a sought after pilot due to his ability to fly with calm confidence.

Glen was a competent athlete, a fearless down hill and cross country skiier, scuba diver, surfer, soccer and lacrosse player, and voted captain of his soccer team. He was a devout animal lover and managed to adopt and transform a beautiful sled dog named Angel into a couch potato! He learned to ride horses with a natural aptitude at an early age on the family’s Shetland pony.

He was born to explore, and drawn to adventure, unafraid of being alone and surviving through what life presented. His love for planes and boats were a testament to his immense need for freedom, and the beauty of fresh air and nature in all its glory.

Glen was a true gentleman, leader and above all, a proud and loving father.

He is survived by his children Alexander and Nicola, (their mother Michele MacKenzie), father Dr. Thomas MacKenzie (Lorinne), and Aunt Jill Soleway. He was predeceased by his mother Jacqueline MacKenzie, sister Karen and uncle Alastair and aunt Julie MacKenzie.

We wish him the freedom to soar, out of pain and without tether.

A celebration of his life for family and friends will be held on Salt Spring Island at the SS Golf Club from 2:00pm – 5:00pm on October 3, 2026.

From: Rob MacKinnon
Relation: Childhood friend

Glen was one of my best friends in elementary school years at Emily Carr School. He lived 5 houses away from me up the road on 27th Ave. Glen was the coolest kid in our neighbourhood as he was the first to have a Mustang bike with 3 gears! I spent a few memorable weekends with his family in Point Roberts, and I credit him with helping me learn to swim on a trip with my family to Penticton. We went our separate ways to different high schools, but had a memorable random run into each other in a Sun Peaks Resort bar in 2005. My condolences to Glen’s family. RIP Glen.
