Tribute

Groot, Afra Maria

May 30, 1938 – November 12, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, grandma, and sister.  Afra passed away peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital after a brief illness with  her daughter Jeannette and granddaughter, Jamie by her side.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Diana (Mark) Jones, Jeannette Whiskin, Mary Bot, Casey (Teresa) Bot and Carol (Dan) Demong and her stepchildren Wayne (Tara) Groot, Michael (Lorina) Groot. Afra had 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was predeceased by her husband Brent only six months ago.  Afra and Brent were married for 20 wonderful years.  He was her best friend.  Afra leaves behind sisters in Holland and many friends and family in the Cowichan Valley, Smithers and Holland.  Her quilting guild was filled with great friends and she enjoyed it so much.

Afra’s grandchildren were her pride and joy and they adored her.  She loved to bake and cook for her family along with knitting and crotcheting, playing cards and visiting with family.  She was a very talented seamstress.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Quw’utsun Cultural and Conference Centre at 200 Cowichan Way, Duncan from 12-3.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to BC Children’s Hospitale at this time.
