Addi Bentzen
Tribute
1939 – 2025
In loving memory it is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Addi on April 20, 2025. Addi passed away peacefully at home after a few months of illness preceded by leukemia.
Addi was an amazing woman! She immigrated from Denmark in 1958 setting out on an adventure and looking for a better life after the hardships of war. After driving across much of Canada she fell in love with Vancouver Island. Along with her husband and his brothers they owned and operated the Maple Bay Marina. Addi had a passion for boating that began at a very young age. She ran the general store at the Marina and was loved by everyone who came in contact with her there. In later years she also became a Member of the Maple Bay Yacht Club. She enjoyed the time spent on her own sailboat ‘ADDI’ and the friendships she made in the Club.
She was predeceased by her son Dan in a tragic accident in 1997.
Survived by her loving daughter, Else (Irv) Prichard, granddaughter Grace, grandson Dan, brother Bjorn (Jeannette) Heerwagen and niece Tina, nephews Bryce and Kirk Heerwagen.
Addi will be remembered by her friends and family for her delicious baking and beautiful handcrafted cards.
Addi enjoyed the community at Silver Park and the friends she made therein.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Willie Pewarchuk and Dr. Gisela Wenzel-Smith for all of their professional and personal care throughout the years. And thank you to the staff of those offices.
Respecting Addi’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society of BC.

It was such an honor to know Addi. We shared some wonderful conversations. She spoke of her family, how proud she was of them and the love she had for her children, her grandchildren and the loss of her son. She made you laugh and smile and always greeted you with kindness and welcomed you in her home. Addi had many talents and it was a pleasure to receive one of her home made cards. Her yard and home were her joy. The friendships Addi made throughout her life will be remembered by all that had the privilege in knowing her. She will be greatly missed. Thoughts are with her family.
